    WALSENBURG, Colo. – Approximately 100 community members from Walsenburg, La Veta, and the surrounding area, gathered for a class on sandbagging, April 6, 2019. The class was held by the Readiness and Contingency Operations team from the Albuquerque District Corps of Engineers. High flows are expected this year, as a result of heavy snow pack, and an abundance of rain, in New Mexico.

  • Corps awards nearly $1 billion in border barrier contracts

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Task Force Barrier, in partnership with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, awarded two contracts totaling nearly $1 billion April 9 for the removal and replacement of vehicle fencing with pedestrian fencing along the southwest border.
  • The USACE Transatlantic Division's new Chief of Safety and Occupational Health, Lorese Dudley, says her mission is to prevent accidental injury, loss of life, and loss of equipment, all which could impact the mission. Dudley considers safety as a cultural state 24/7 and not a reactive response only implemented during duty hours.

    General recognizes security officer wounded in Iraq IED attack

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 8, 2019) – Ejected from his turret position in an F350 truck, laying on the ground critically injured in Iraq nearly 12 years ago, Billy Johnson remembers saying an “Our Father,” not fearing death. Today he stood full of life in front of family, friends and his priest, thankful for their love and support as he received the Secretary of Defense Medal for the Defense of Freedom during a ceremony hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Tennessee Valley Authority Central Labs near Chickamauga Lock.
