    PUBLIC NOTICE – PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: Public Comment for Section 160 of the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, Definition of Economically Disadvantaged Community

    Public Comment Period: 03 June 2022 to 02 August 2022 In accordance with Section 160 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2020 the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works is conducting a 60-day public comment period to gather public comments on the definition of the term “economically disadvantaged community” and other terms listed below. A companion Federal Register Notice is publishing concurrently and can be found at www.federalregister.gov/d/2022-11881.

    Team explains how it surveys Lake Cumberland’s water quality

    LAKE CUMBERLAND, Ky. (June 3, 2022) – A water quality team onboard a survey boat collected water samples last week from Wolf Creek Dam’s tailwater along with 12 more stations in the reservoir and major tributaries of Lake Cumberland.

    ERDC leaders cut ribbon to new Climatic Cold Chamber Building

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory’s (CRREL) new Climatic Cold Chamber Building, which CRREL research teams will utilize for the testing of materiel used by the Warfighter in extreme cold environments.

    Infrastructure Program Enhances Cooperation, Collaboration Between U.S. and Poland

    U.S. and Polish officials marked the beginning of the Poland Provided Infrastructure (PPI) program with a groundbreaking ceremony for a munitions storage area in Powidz, Poland June 2. This project is funded by the NATO Security Investment Program (NSIP), Poland and the United States Air Force. The project is being executed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and managed as part of the PPI program through our strong bi-lateral partnership.
  • Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Michael Connor speaks at the Houston Ship Channel (HSC) Expansion--or Project 11--kick off event at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District headquarters, June 1. The Galveston District, Port Houston, and the Great Lakes Dock and Dredge Company are partnering to expand the channel. The HSC is a 52-mile-long channel with more than 200 public and private facilities alongside it. Expanding it is critical to safely and efficiently sustaining national energy security, domestic manufacturing growth, thriving U.S. exports, and expanding job opportunities.

    The Galveston District, Port Houston and the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company jointly officially kicked off the Houston Ship Channel (HSC) Expansion—or Project 11—with a ceremony at the District’s Headquarters June 1.
