    Lisa and Randy Smith dedicated nearly two decades of their lives volunteering together with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They first volunteered with USACE at the Mill Creek Campground at Berlin Lake in Ohio, and later with USACE, Savannah District at J. Strom Thurmond Lake in South Carolina. After Lisa’s passing Randy continues to volunteer in honor his late wife’s memory.

    Randy and Lisa Smith dedicated nearly two decades of their lives volunteering together with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, assisting rangers at campgrounds, lakes and day use areas. Their journey began in 2004 when they first volunteered with USACE at the Mill Creek Campground at Berlin Lake in Ohio. Their volunteer work continued with USACE, Savannah District at J. Strom Thurmond Lake in South Carolina.

    USACE Commander signs Chief's report for Puerto Rico Coastal Storm Risk Management Study Project

    (JACKSONVILLE, Fla. July 30, 2022) – Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, signed the Chief’s Report for the Puerto Rico Coastal Storm Risk Management Study, recommending the study’s findings for authorization by Congress.
  • Public affairs specialists from across the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division came to the Huntington District to increase their video skills during the division’s second regional visual storytelling workshop. During the workshop, participants gained experience in video camera operation, shot-listing, story planning, video editing, sound design, camera movements and more.

    Maintenance professionals drain Old Hickory Lock for inspection, repairs

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (July 30, 2024) – Maintenance professionals with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently closed Old Hickory Lock to navigation and drained it to check on the condition of components that operate under the surface of the water.

Encapsulating docks, mines, house pads, and many other man-made structures, the district’s regulatory obligations are an important function in ensuring public compliance with federal law.

    USACE regulatory program celebrates rollout of new online permitting system to augment critical mission

With an added emphasis on high-quality customer service, USACE recently unveiled the new Regulatory Request System as an important new development for the regulatory mission and for permittees to engage with the program.
