We SAFELY deliver agile, responsive, and innovative, design, construction, engineering and contingency solutions in support of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command and other global partners to advance national security interests.

LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    USACE-Albuquerque District employees inspect the bridge to the Santa Rosa Dam control tower using a contracted “Under-bridge Access Unit” during a routine 5-year periodic inspection, May 11, 2022. This crane, aka a “snooper crane,” was contracted from Duluth, Minnesota. Due to the very unique nature of the crane, there are only a few “rentable” vehicles of this type available in the U.S. and thus this contract action requires a long lead time.

    In Memoriam… Marie Farnsworth

    The Albuquerque District is sad to report that retiree and member of the District’s Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees Marie Farnsworth passed away Dec. 31, 2022, 6 months shy of her 100th birthday. We offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to her family and friends.

    Books to bytes: ERDC Library goes fully virtual

    VICKSBURG, Miss.— A new effort will transform the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Library by adding an unexpected capability: virtual reality. A team at the ERDC Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) is working to create a fully-immersive, interactive experience that is as realistic as physically walking into the Mississippi-based library with an ultimate goal of enhancing information and data discovery for team members around the world.

    ‘The Way of the Future’

    Employees participating in a recent construction safety course at the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville toured a construction site, identified safety hazards and experienced the dangerous outcomes of safety violations – all without leaving their classroom. This real-world experience was made possible by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Safety Trainer 360, a virtual reality construction site game created by the Huntsville Center Safety Office and the Army Game Studio.

    Newark, NJ— In a packed room at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials answered questions from the public about the Tentatively Selected Plan (TSP) for the New York and New Jersey Harbors and Tributaries Study. In the past coastal storms have pummeled the North Atlantic Coast of the United States.
