    For 37 years, the Everglades Coalition has been meeting in South Florida to discuss restoration of America’s River of Grass. It’s safe to say that the topic of water management has been a major part of that discussion every year. This year is no different as the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual enters the home stretch.

    Protecting the workforce through Fall Protection training

    USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea -- Fall protection safety equipment and training have evolved over the years, reinforcing continuous safety on construction sites. According to the Center of Disease Control’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, falls remained the leading cause of work-related construction deaths, accounting for more than one in three (36.4%) of the total number of fatalities in the industry in 2019.
  • Daphne Thompson received the Installation Support and Program Management Directorate's 2021 Difference Maker Award. Thompson, a project manager with the Furnishings Program, has been with Huntsville Center since January 2009.

To show how much we value our employees, we highlight one district professional every month by asking a few questions about their position and how they got to where they are today. This month, we are highlighting Regulatory Division Supervisor Benjamin Pitcock. Pitcock said his duties consist of leading a high-performing and technically advanced team of USACE professionals. The professionals he’s alluding to manage a program committed to protecting the Nation's aquatic resources while allowing reasonable development through fair, flexible and balanced permit decisions. The Corps evaluates permit applications for essentially all construction activities in the Nation's waters, including wetlands.
