    Ash named Nashville District Employee of the Month for March 2021

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 14, 2021) – Zona Ash, office administrator at the Old Hickory Resource Manager’s Office in Hendersonville, Tennessee, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for March 2021. She is recognized primarily for her efforts to reduce obsolete materials and reorganize the file room.
  • Ray Dos Santos, a mathematician and computer scientist with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Geospatial Research Laboratory, Alexandria, Virginia, uses large amounts of historical data, social media activity and news articles to identify the best indicators of when and where a terrorist attack may take place.     Using a “Big Data” approach to find threats, fight terror

    Whether at home or abroad, the main goal of any commander is to keep Soldiers safe. With that in mind, researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) have been using large amounts of historical data, social media activity and news articles to identify the best indicators of when and where a terrorist attack may take place. This “Big Data” approach uses massive amounts of available information, along with high-end parallel computing, to find important clues that aid in the fight against rogue activities.

    FED fortifies partnership with 11th Engineer Battalion in the Indo-Pacific

    USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED) hosted a visit for 40 Soldiers assigned to the 11th Engineer Battalion, May 13, to educate them on the impact FED has in the Indo-Pacific, and to strengthen the partnership by exploring opportunities that are mutually beneficial.

    Jaime Pinkham, Acting, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, and Major General William (Butch) H. Graham, Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations, made a visit to the USACE Huntington District in order to take informative tours of Bluestone Dam, Marmet Locks and Dam and the Marietta Repair Station.
  • The fill stands and pump stations on Anderson Air Force Base, Guam, look shiny and new after receiving restorative coatings. The project is just a small part of an ongoing effort to protect vital fuel systems from the corrosion that pervades infrastructure on the tropical island.     Fuels Program delivers cost-saving services to Anderson AFB

    Guam may be a tropical island paradise for residents and visitors, but its warm climate and salty, humid air wreak havoc on fuel infrastructure at military installations on the island. In order to proactively combat this problem and protect vital fuel systems at Anderson Air Force Base, the U.S. Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Energy have teamed up with the installation to provide ongoing maintenance that ultimately prevent costly large-scale corrective repairs.
