    National Capital Region emergency response partners weather the storm

    During a recent emergency exercise, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District; 249th Engineer Battalion Charlie Company Prime Power; and emergency management partners helped enable community restoration efforts in the region by successfully assessing temporary emergency power needs for critical facilities. This opportunity prepared the emergency response agencies to resolve post-storm power outages during their most challenging time – hurricane season.

    Underwater vehicles safeguard lives, improve efficiency for Pittsburgh District

    The newest underwater remote operated vehicle for the Pittsburgh District is equipped with a high-definition video and photo camera, a multibeam sonar, a claw that can rotate and grab objects, and thrusters that are twice as powerful as the previous version to pilot through stronger currents.

    Huntsville Center architect earns top USACE honors

    The award recognizes Douglas Kohns, senior architect at the Medical Facilities Mandatory of Expertise and Standardization, for his architectural leadership and support of numerous Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs medical programs, but the award specifically highlights his more recent contributions to the COVID-19 relief efforts. Kohns developed the national architectural design standard for the alternate care sites and community vaccination centers that were quickly designed and constructed across the nation in a matter of months.
