    Middle East District promotes STEM ahead of National Engineers Week

    During the month of February, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Middle East DISTRICT (TAM) supported three Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) events in the city of Winchester, Va., continuing a strong tradition of STEM outreach to the local community. Although the District supports events throughout the year, February is particularly important in promoting STEM because the third week in February is National Engineers Week. The three February events include MATHCOUNTS, a nationally recognized middle school math completion, a school science fair and a speaking engagement at STARBASE, a Department of Defense sponsored program aimed at promoting STEM at the elementary school level.

    The Corps partners with the South Santiam Watershed Council to donate timber for a steelhead restoration project on Scott Creek.
  • River outreach underway

    Communication is key, and the Kansas City District understands that concept and strives to implement it. “We have more stakeholders than we know,” said John Grothaus, Kansas City District’s chief of planning. “We are actively searching for them, working to communicate with them to learn their needs while informing what the Corps of Engineers does and how we can best serve the public.”
  • Oak Ridge project team earns Nashville District’s Hedgehog Award

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 15, 2017) – A team of employees received the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Hedgehog Award today in recognition of efforts that ensured a construction project for the U.S. Department of Energy finished on time and $5 million under budget.
