    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District place segmented sections of temporary protective barriers in the community of Cedar Creek, Arizona, Aug. 17. The project is in response to an Aug. 13 request by the White Mountain Apache Tribe to provide assistance to meet an imminent flood threat. Storm flows from the summer monsoon season, in concert with debris flows from the burned watershed upstream, pose a serious threat because limited flood risk minimization measures (K-rails) are currently in place.

    District adds temporary capacity to Cedar Creek flood fighting measures

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District dispatched personnel and resources Aug. 14 to assist the White Mountain Apache community with its limited flood risk minimization measures.

    USACE assists in debris cleanup after W. Va. floods

    After much of West Virginia was devastated by floods, the Corps of Engineers sent subject matter experts to assist with the debris recovery mission.
  • Contractors use a track-mounted rotosonic drill rig to install monitoring wells at the Raco Army Airfield and Missile Site, in the Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan as part of the ongoing environmental remedial investigation.

    Corps program promotes green cleanups

    In an effort to reduce the environmental footprint of field work at Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District has embraced the Green and Sustainable Remediation (GSR) initiative—a pilot program designed to encourage contractors to be more environmentally conscious.
  • Controlled burns at the Sunflower Local Training Area in Kansas are an example of environmental services provided by the Louisville District to the 88th Regional Support Command.

    Louisville lends hand to Reserve’s 88th RSC

    The Louisville District supports all of the U.S. Army Reserve Regional Commands with environmental services, but this year the 88th RSC, which makes up a 19-state area from the Midwest to the Northwest coast, is the biggest customer with 14 projects on the docket.
