    Papio Lakes, Corps hosts virtual meeting for new master plan; public comments sought

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, Natural Resources Management Section hosted a Papio Lakes Master Plan kick-off meeting in May with agency partners and stakeholders to help consolidate several separate, older plans into one document for the Papio Lakes recreation area; the plan is available for public comment through July 31.
  • Gathright Dam in Alleghany County, Virginia, impounds water flowing down the Jackson River to create the 2,500-acre Lake Moomaw. Since opening in 1979, the dam has prevented numerous floods, saving countless dollars and lives.

    Norfolk District cancels Gathright Dam pulse release

    NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials have canceled a pulse release scheduled for June 24 at Gathright Dam in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia near Covington.
  • Naval Support Activity Bahrain along with personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Navy Medicine held a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new medical and dental clinic on Naval Support Activity Bahrain. The new 56,000 square foot facility, will substantially increase medical capacities and capabilities for sailors and their families stationed in Bahrain. Construction was overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and completed in December of 2019.

    NSA Bahrain Cuts Ribbon on new USACE Built Medical Facility

    The Naval Medical Readiness and Training Unit (NMRTU) Bahrain held a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the successful completion of the USACE-built multi-faceted medical clinic on June 16. The ceremony was led by Navy Capt. Greg Smith, the commander of the Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain.

    Working remotely from their separate homes, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in concert towards the same goal, the Oldtown Seepage Remediation Project Delivery Team (PDT) successfully reached their Site Showing milestone. The PDT held the project site showing on June 11 in Helena, Ark., which helped contract bidders familiarize themselves with the geographical area and work associated with the project.
  • Predictive Environmental Modeling System co-inventor Dr. Jonathon Brame, formerly with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory as a research environmental engineer, received a U.S. Patent in September 2019. Brame is now based in London, England, with the U.S. Army Combat Capability Development Command as the basic and applied research team lead for Combat Capability Development Command -Atlantic.

    ERDC’s patented tool designed to save millions, speed acquisitions

    A trio of researchers from the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Environmental Laboratory (EL) created a unique tool that can be used by acquisition representatives and material developers to decrease acquisition costs and increase the likelihood of materials moving quickly through the acquisition process.
