    STEM & USACE: Linking the future of the Corps with the engineers of tomorrow

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 27, 2021)— Antioch Middle School teacher Thomas Yan toured the Old Hickory Lock and Dam, and the Old Hickory Hydropower Plant during the Middle Tennessee Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Innovation Network Externship with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District on October 21-22 to learn what STEM job opportunities USACE has to offer future graduates.

    Volunteering it Forward: Kansas City District all-volunteer disaster relief force makes a difference across the U.S.

    In the span of a year, the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had 25 of their employees actively work on deployments to disaster relief missions across the U.S. Kansas City District employees participated in four Emergency Support Function-3 missions—the Oregon wildfires, Tennessee high water event, Hurricane Henri and Hurricane Ida. Disaster relief missions that happen outside the Kansas City District and require additional help fall under ESF-3, which requires USACE’s support through volunteer deployments.

    Corps river and creek cleanup project removes 575 tons of debris

    Work began daybreak on Sept. 27 in San Jose Creek. Contractors hauled trash, shopping carts, bundles of Arundo donax reeds used to build campsites, abandoned vehicles, propane tanks and gasoline cans from abandoned illegal campsites. Scores of big dumpsters were filled and refilled until the last semi pulled away.

    USACE Europe District leader recognized for excellence for work in Southern Europe

    From a jump tower renovation for paratroopers in Vicenza, Italy to a fire station for humanitarian assistance in Armenia to European Deterrence Initiative projects in Romania and Bulgaria, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Europe District’s Bryce Jones is responsible for documenting, evaluating, and monitoring contractor performance for an area that spans more than 2,800 miles and active projects spread across seven countries including Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. For his outstanding performance in his role of Administrative Contracting Officer for Europe District’s Southern Europe Area Office, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognized Jones as the Administrative Contracting Officer of the Year during a virtual awards ceremony Oct. 25.
  • Regular monitoring through laboratory analysis and continuous visual inspections of each site, help keep surface water clean. The Clean Water Act, governed by the Environmental Protection Agency, establishes the basic structure for regulating discharges of pollutants into the water and regulating quality standards for surface waters. FED regulates the SWPPP in accordance with the Korean Environmental Governing Standards, which states that USFK installations should keep quality discharge stormwater.

    Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Energy Awareness Month

    USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea—National Energy Awareness month, observed throughout the month of October, is embedded in the way the Far East District operates every day. They do this by regulating the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan.
