    The Mill Creek Project is over 80 years old, older than the Walla Walla District, which will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary on Nov. 1, 2023. Since construction was completed in 1942, at least $300 million in potential flood damages have been prevented by the Mill Creek Project’s combined storage and channel operations.

    Through fair or foul weather: A history of the Mill Creek Project

    In 1931, a torrent of brown water roared down Mill Creek, with water levels rising at a rate of one foot per hour. The water escaped the confines of the riverbanks and rushed through the City of Walla Walla, destroying homes, roads and bridges. Born in the wake of this disastrous event, the Mill Creek Project now stands to protect the city from floods like this.

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Col. James Booth, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District commander and Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline a City of St. Augustine official, marked the start of a comprehensive study to address ongoing coastal flooding within the city limits.

    Nashville District names Harrell Employee of the Month for September 2022

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 9, 2023) – Park Ranger Andrew Harrell, natural resource specialist intern at J. Percy Priest Lake, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for September 2022. He is recognized for his quick thinking, leading to the rescue of two swimmers in distress at Cook Recreation Area.

    Adaptive in the face of adversity: Matthew Scholten, Human Resource Assistant

    He’s the first person to greet you when you walk into the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center office, but there’s more than meets the eye with Matthew Scholten. While Scholten’s current title is Human Resources Assistant with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, he is also a retired Army staff sergeant and an adaptive athlete for the Kansas City Chiefs wheelchair football team. His time within the Army shaped how he would live the rest of his life and led to him finding his love for wheelchair football.
