    SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Contracting chiefs from ten federal agencies around the San Francisco Bay Area gather for the Bay Area Acquisition Roundtable hosted by the Regional Contracting Division here April 3, 2013 at South Pacific Division headquarters, San Francisco, Calif. The roundtable, started in 2010 by Jim Bartha, Regional Chief of Contracts, provided a forum to discuss federal contracting and acquisitions in Northern California.

  • The Portland District and city of Portland are partnering to restore fish passage through the cool, clear waters of Crystal Springs Creek flowing through Westmoreland Park. Construction begins in June to replace small culverts and create wetland habitat for native waterfowl, amphibians and mammals. When work is complete, the park will be a place to experience and enjoy nature in the city.

    Crystal Springs Creek is one of thousands of small streams flowing through the Pacific Northwest. Most provide ideal habitat for fish, but this creek has not supported fish passage for about 40 years.

  • Albuquerque District, Acoma Pueblo enter into Corps’ second watershed cost share agreement

    ACOMA PUEBLO, N.M.-- Albuquerque District and Acoma Pueblo entered into a watershed cost share agreement recently under the Section 203 Tribal Partnership Program.
  • The “Flamboyán” tree, known in English as a Royal Poinciana or Flame Tree, is named for its flamboyant display of orange-red petals. The tree, planted by Corps employees in 1976, still graces the grounds of the Antilles office today.

    If the responsibility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office in Puerto Rico was a dance, it would probably be closer to the currently popular “Harlem Shuffle” than a salsa. Though responsibility for the office was shuffled over the years from New York to Panama, then to Puerto Rico, and finally to Jacksonville District, the importance of having a Corps office located on the island has never shifted. Corps civilian and military activities in Puerto Rico include administration, coastal defense projects, facilities construction on military bases and flood risk reduction, as well as maintenance and improvement of inland waterways and harbors. Specific navigation projects have included Arecibo Harbor, San Juan Harbor, and Mayaguez Harbor in Puerto Rico.
  • Staff Sgt. Jackie Wallace works on the Corps' Olmsted Locks and Dam, Ill. construction project on the lower Ohio River. His internship is via the Operation Warfighter program for convalescing wounded warriors.

    Louisville District supports service members: Operation Warfighter helps Soldiers assimilate into workforce

    During the fall of 2012, Louisville District’s Chief of Construction Division Kirk Dailey began the district’s involvement with the Department of Defense Operation Warfighter program.
