    Christine Morgan, cost estimator technician in the Cost Engineering Branch of the Alaska District, leads a small group of skiers during a 2012 Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Ski League meeting March 7 at the Eagleglen Golf Course. Skiers of all skill levels and from different organizations met twice each week during lunch hours of the winter season. Morgan lost 70 pounds in a six-month period after first learning to cross-country ski during the 2011 season.

Standing up on two legs becomes an unexpected challenge when learning to cross-country ski. After solving the puzzle of entangled skis and poles, she presses on.

    Federally recognized tribes sign BPNM Floodway programmatic agreement

    Six federally recognized tribes have signed the new Birds Point/New Madrid Floodway Programmatic Agreement (PA). Two tribes, the Quapaw Tribe and the Delaware Nation, signed the PA during a signing ceremony held at Memphis District Nov. 20, 2012. Three tribes - Osage Nation, the Absentee Shawnee, and the Eastern Shawnee - signed by mail in December 2012, and the Thlopthlocco Creek signed in a ceremony Jan. 18.

    White River receives National Blueway designation

    The White River and its entire basin became the second watershed to receive designation as a “National Blueway” at a ceremony in Little Rock, Ark., Jan. 9. The first was the Connecticut River; however the White River Watershed is the first to undergo the full nomination, evaluation and recognition process.

  • Facelift for Bedford Veterans Administration hospital

    The New England District and its contractor recently completed a much needed facelift to Building #2 at the Veterans Administration hospital, also known as The Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, in Bedford, Mass.

    Partnerships bring recognition, success

    Several hundred watershed management professionals gathered April 11 in Costa Mesa, Calif., to discuss the benefits of consolidating efforts for maximum benefit in the present and anticipated times of fiscal limitations.
