  • Omaha District Leadership Development Program participants, Candace Akins, Eileen Williamson and Josh Melliger display the pallid sturgeon they caught during broodstock collection efforts with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, April 8. The pallid sturgeon measured 585 millimeters long and weighed 735 grams – not big enough to be reproduction-ready. It was returned to the river with the rest of the catch. A pallid should be at least 800 mm long before it is shipped to the hatchery.

    Each year, personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District participate with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to assist with an effort to collect and ship reproductive-ready pallid sturgeon to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service hatchery near Gavins Point Dam or Missouri Department of Conservation’s Blind Pony State Fish Hatchery.

  • Fort Bliss to Launch Military’s Largest Renewable Energy Project

    The largest renewable energy project in U.S. military history is slated to begin soon at Fort Bliss, Texas, a big step toward the installation’s goal of generating all the energy it uses, Army Maj. Gen. Dana J.H. Pittard, the installation and 1st Armored Division commander, announced April 5, 2013.

    Housing Planning and Response Team members complete Level 2 certification training

    Six members of Huntsville Center’s Housing Planning and Response Team recently completed Level 2 Certification training, making them eligible to support the Federal Emergency Management Agency in response to a disaster. The training included classroom training as well as field exercises at multiple locations that the State of Virginia is considering for development of temporary community sites to have prepared prior to a major event occurring.
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Far East District hosted the 28th Korean Ministry of National Defense Exchange Program March 25-April 12. Throughout the course, the Korean engineers visited various branches of the district including Construction Division, Engineering Division, Korea Program Relocation Office, Contracting Division, Safety and Occupational Health Office, and Humphreys Area Office.
