    It’s a girl! Kitten born to rescued and released Florida panther

    In September 2011, a pair of orphaned five-month-old Florida panther kittens was rescued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) biologists, after their mother was found dead. Too young to survive on their own, they were raised in captivity at White Oak Plantation in Yulee, Fla., with the goal of one day releasing them back into the wild.
  • Seven workers pass scaffolding sections up the chamber side of Kentucky Lock’s lower miter gate Aug. 19, 2013. The wraparound scaffold is being assembled to permit TVA-contracted GUBMK Constructors to sandblast, make any needed internal structural repairs, and paint the 91-foot tall miter gates. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employees dewatered the 69-year-old, 110-by-600-foot lock and will inspect the culvert valves and all other areas of the lock that are normally underwater for any needed repairs. Corps employees will also replace the tow haulage system, used to move unpowered sections of barge tows through the lock. Kentucky lock is scheduled to resume normal operation at noon, Sept. 24, 2013.

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 19, 2013) – The 91-foot tall lower miter gates at Kentucky Lock was a beehive of activity today as workmen assembled wraparound scaffolding in preparation for making needed repairs on the gates.

John Hudson, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District commander presents Avis Kennedy, a retired Nashville District employee the Distinguished Civilian Employees award at the Estes Kefauver Federal Building on Aug. 15, 2013. The award is presented to retired employees that have been retired for two or more years with at least 20 years of service and have displayed outstanding leadership with exception and preeminence among their peers and contributed substantially to the reputation and honor of the Corps of Engineers through their service.

    Corps Distinguished Civilian Employees named at ceremony

(Aug. 15, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District celebrated 125 years of service to the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers Basins and to the nation at an open house and award ceremony that culminated with the announcement of two Distinguished Civilian Employees at the Estes Kefauver Federal Building.
