    The USACE Inland Electronic Navigational Chart (IENC) Program is responsible for all inland navigational charts in the United States, which commercial and recreational users rely on. The Army Geospatial Center (AGC) recognized the need for an app that allows boaters to easily view the navigation charts from their mobile devices like smart phones and tablets and tapped into the resources the Louisville District has to offer to develop this capability. Drew McPheron, a computer engineering co-op student from the University of Louisville, has been developing the new app, which distributes 107 inland charts via the web

    Rock Island District Dive Team Goes in for a Closer Look

    The lower guidewall at Locks and Dam 15 on the Mississippi River was originally constructed in the early 1930s. For more than 80 years this concrete wall has been used by commercial vessels to approach and depart the lock. Now, after many years of standing strong, the wall is showing wear and the Rock Island District dive team was called in for a closer look.

    Rock Island District Park Ranger,Tracy Spry, receives 2015 Hiram M. Chittenden Award for Excellence in Interpretation

    Interpretive efforts of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park rangers are nationally recognized by the presentation of the Hiram M. Chittenden Award for Excellence in Interpretation. This year, park ranger Tracy Spry from Rock Island District’s Lake Red Rock was chosen as the recipient of this prestigious award. This will be the first time, since the award was created, that a member of the Rock Island District has received the award.

    Gathright Dam pulse release scheduled for Sept. 2

    Operators at Gathright Dam near Covington, Virginia will conduct a pulse release Wednesday. The pulses will increase levels 3 to 4.5 feet in the Jackson River, and experts advise people who use the river to be aware of the river fluctuations caused by the pulses.

    Energy Division teams up with Defense Commissary Agency to reduce energy consumption

    Huntsville Center's Energy Division is assisting the Defense Commissary Agency in developing a comprehensive energy reduction plan that delineates the path DeCA must take to achieve mandated energy reduction goals for its West Area sites.
