    Ready to respond whenever storms strike the Pittsburgh Region

    The Pittsburgh District mitigates flood damages throughout its 26,000 square foot region with a network of 16 strategically placed reservoirs that capture storm runoff and reduce downstream risks. The system of reservoirs has prevented $48 billion in damages since their construction began after the 1936 St. Patrick’s Day Flood. The district monitors water levels year-round, adjusts dam operations during storms, collaborates with local, state, and federal agencies, and provides technical and disaster recovery assistance to improve community resilience against future storms.
  • On November 14, 2024, cadets from the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) at the United States Military Academy (USMA)—Owen Hodges, Ashton Perez, and Anthony Tinerella—along with Maj. Joseph Speight, an instructor within CME at USMA and USMA alumni Jay Joyce, Facilitator of the West Point Society of Cincinnati, visited the USACE Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD) Headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.

    On November 14, 2024, cadets from the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CME) at the United States Military Academy visited the USACE Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD) Headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio. They attended informational sessions led by LRD leadership and staff, received mentorship from LRD Division Commander Maj. Gen. Mark C. Quander, reviewed LRD missions and projects, and gained critical advice and insights for their own senior capstone projects.

    ERDC’s Wallace earns BYU Honored Alumni Award

    PROVO, Utah—Dr. Rob Wallace, a technical director with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL), was recently selected as the 2024 Honored Alumnus for the Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering at Brigham Young University (BYU). The Honored Alumni Award, part of the BYU homecoming celebrations, recognizes the career achievements of the top graduates from each of the universities 11 colleges.

    Huntsville Center Improves Targets for Range at Fort McCoy

    The U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville’s Range and Training Land Program Mandatory Center of Expertise, RTLP MCX, recently completed a Target Interface Inspection, TII, for the Scout and Reconnaissance Gunnery Range at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. The inspection is a significant step toward ensuring the state-of-the-art range is operational for soldier training in 2025.
