The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Transatlantic Division serves as USACE’s tip of the spear in one of the most dynamic construction environments in the world, STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS, BUILDING CAPACITY, and ENHANCING SECURITY for our nation, allies, and partners. 

We SAFELY deliver agile, responsive, and innovative, design, construction, engineering and contingency solutions in support of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command and other global partners to advance national security interests.

LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER:

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Computer scientist Tung “Alex” Ly with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) invented the “Digital Buoy Systems and Method” in his laboratory at ERDC’s Geospatial Research Laboratory (GRL), Alexandria, Virginia. He received a patent in May 2022 for his digital system which will help reduce operational costs to the U.S. Government and provide real-time, reliable and enhanced marine navigation safety for U.S. private, public and commercial industries.

    Army’s Digital Buoy System selected as R&D 100 finalist

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) collaborative effort with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Army Geospatial Center (AGC) on a Digital Buoy System has been selected as a 2023 R&D 100 Finalist in the IT/Electrical category.
  • Dave Kopecky served as an enlisted soldier and as a commissioned engineering officer during his 25 years of service to the nation.

    Retired soldier continues to serve on Louisville VA project

    Louisville, Ky. – Dave Kopecky has worn quite a few hats, and military ranks, since he first enlisted in the Army in 1996. He went on to serve for 25 years before retiring from military service. Now he continues to serve the nation and other veterans as member of the Louisville District’s Louisville VA Medical Center construction team as a project engineer and contracting officer’s representative.

    John L. Primavera inducted into Senior Executive Service

    The 55th Chief of Engineers Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon hosted a Senior Executive Service induction ceremony for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, North Atlantic Division Regional Director of Business John L. Primavera at the Fort Hamilton Community Club in Brooklyn, New York, Nov. 7.

    Innovation leads to productive season for safety upgrade at Moose Creek Dam

    With the onset of winter, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District capped off a successful summer by doubling its progress from last year to build a cement barrier wall in the center of the dam. The safety improvement project is now about halfway complete as the team works to reinforce 4.7 miles of the 8-mile-long earthen structure.
