    Officials break ground on K-25 Viewing Platform

    OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (May 11, 2023) – Officials broke ground today on a building that will provide a historic lookout over the footprint where the K-25 Building once stood and the Oak Ridge Diffusion Plant produced uranium during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project. Dignitaries welcomed guests, made speeches, and shoveled dirt to officially kick off construction of the K-25 Viewing Platform at East Tennessee Technology Park.

    Jacksonville hails arrival of largest container ship to ever call at port

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla., May 4, 2023 – Less than one year since the completion of the Jacksonville Harbor 47-foot Deepening project, Jaxport marked a milestone with the arrival yesterday of the largest capacity container ship to ever call at the Blount Island Marine Terminal. The USACE Jacksonville District's Harbor Deepening project provides the water draft needed to accommodate such vessels.

    IWR joins international conversation alongside six European nations on mainstreaming nature-based solutions

    Alexandria, VA (May 10, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Institute for Water Resources (IWR) participated in the kick-off of the project MANABAS COAST (MAinstreaming NAture BAsed Solutions through COASTal systems). The meeting took place March 11-17 in Hague, Netherlands. USACE is an official observer of MANABAS, which is a European Union project aimed at mainstreaming nature-based engineering solutions in the North Sea Region.
  • Carol Carrasco (left), was recently recognized as the 2023 "Administrative Professional of the Year" for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Galveston District. Carrasco was nominated by Dr. Kelly Burks-Copes (right), chief of the Galveston District's Mega Projects Division (MPD) Program Support. A seven-year veteran of the U.S. Army, Carrasco joined the USACE in 2020. Recognized for her hard-charging attitude and ability to complete the difficult, she was selected as one of the first employees assigned to the MPD in early 2022.

    Carrasco named SWG's 2023 'Administrative Professional of the Year'

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District named Carol Carrasco as “Administrative Professional of the Year” during a ceremony recently, highlighting the essential role administrative professionals play to support the District's mission.
  • Another record-breaking season is in the books after the Memphis District’s Revetment Units returned home mid-March of 2023, making it one of the longest seasons had in 20 years. The Memphis District’s Clearing and Snagging and Bank Grading Units are primarily responsible for preparing Mississippi riverbanks for the placement of articulated concrete mattress (ACM), which is accomplished by the Vicksburg District’s Mat Sinking Unit.
