    A journey across the rivers that bond America

    Neal Moore chose a canoe to travel across America, opting for a two-mile-an-hour, paddle-powered vessel on the riverways, instead of the comforts of a cozy RV.

    Engineers tackle Army Combat Fitness Test in Alaska

Its large storage reservoir allows downstream users to have a consistent amount of water year-round but especially during long, hot summers and droughts. According to public scoping comments from city of Salem officials during a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Draft Environmental Impact Statement (page 246) for downstream fish passage at Detroit Dam, the city’s intake for drinking water needs 750 cubic feet per second to operate (as of August 9, the combined tributaries of the North Santiam and Little North Santiam rivers were providing 413 cubic feet per second of water).     Mother Nature can be comforting but has scolded (scalded) us this year

    Mother Nature can be comforting and calm but this year it seems like she used our first, middle and last name as she scolded (or scalded) us … “Pacific North [emphasis added] West, what in the world were you thinking?!” … for punching our hypothetical little sister (California). Our punishment has been drought, record-breaking temperatures, wildfires and extremely dry conditions throughout the region. Even though the early part of this summer was a scorching hot nightmare, north western Oregon is fortunate to have a consistent flow of water – thanks to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ system of dams and reservoirs in the Willamette Valley.

    VICKSBURG, Miss. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviving its free Operation Blue Roof program to get as many houses into livable condition as possible during Hurricane Ida recovery. Operation Blue Roof is a priority mission managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for FEMA.

  • Brewer lauded with USACE Chief Counsel's Honorary Award

    An attorney at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) was recently recognized during the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Chief Counsel’s Honorary Awards ceremony. Allison Brewer, who has been with the ERDC Office of Counsel for more than five years, was awarded the E. Manning Seltzer Award for Special Contributions, which is named for the Chief Legal Advisor to the Chief of Engineers and General Counsel of the USACE from 1956 until 1977. The award recognizes an attorney who has made one or more special contributions to the USACE legal service mission through the development of a legal theory, a legal management innovation or practice or outstanding performance in solving a legal or management problem.
