  • Virtual pre-construction conference for the Ditch 251 Upper Channel Cleanout project.

    District conducts successful ditch cleanout project pre-construction conference

    While they’d rather have the face-to-face variety, the Caruthersville Area Office (CAO) team is highly successful at conducting effective virtual pre-construction conferences made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic. On August 25, CAO successfully conducted a virtual pre-construction conference for the Ditch 251 Upper Channel Cleanout project. This critical $8,890,292 cleanout project is to return a 30-mile reach of Ditch 251 to its authorized level of flood protection.

    When Jessica Fischer started her career at the Army Corps of Engineers 11 years ago, she didn’t plan on becoming an emergency manager. She was set on a quiet career as a Project Engineer at the New York District. Then 2011 happened.
  • Dr. Jed Eberly, a former research microbiologist with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory, led a team in the invention of “DNA-Based Testing for Environmental Contamination,” a process that earned a patent in February 2020.

    ERDC environmental experts awarded patent for improving soil contamination testing

    Testing soil for contaminants on military bases rather than sending samples to a laboratory has produced speedier, cost-saving results for researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Environment Laboratory (EL). The team received a U.S. Patent this year for their innovative process “DNA-Based Testing for Environmental Contamination.”

    Deputy commander promoted to lieutenant colonel

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 28, 2020) – The deputy commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District received a promotion to the rank of lieutenant colonel today during a ceremony at the district’s headquarters that was also seen virtually via WebEx.
