    Employees at Old Hickory Hydropower Plant take part in a simulated exercise to extract a training dummy from a confined space during a Confined Space and Confined Space Rescue Course June 14, 2018 in Hendersonville, Tenn.     District dangles training dummy to get smart on confined space safety

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (June 14, 2018) – Instructors dangled a training dummy deep inside the Old Hickory Dam Hydropower Plant today making it possible for 19 employees to get smart on safety procedures and emergency rescue operations in confined spaces.

    Northern Electrical Power System provides power in Logar Province

    BAGRAM, Afghanistan – The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is expanding electrical grid power for military bases, businesses, and residents across the country. Most recently in Logar Province in eastern Afghanistan, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani inaugurated the 220kV substation during an inauguration and ribbon-cutting ceremony, held in May shortly after its completion.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 13, 2018) – Dana Sexton, planner and project manager, in the Planning Branch, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee for the month April 2018.

    Kayaks and canoes: best view of beauty on the Missouri River

    Whether by kayak, canoe or raft, you can float the Missouri River from Rulo, Nebraska to St. Louis, Mo. fully in the Kansas City District. These 498 miles of river have some of the richest viewing in our area. You will see a palette of colors. In the spring and summer, mostly shades of green. American Sycamore, Silver Maple, Box Elder and River Birch are some of the trees that line the banks. Sand bars offer an opportunity to picnic – with caution as not to disturb wildlife particularly on those marked for endangered species.

    District intern program promotes STEM, builds confidence

    The Middle East District is committed to assisting the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ initiatives in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through educational and outreach efforts. One of the Middle East District’s latest tools developed in accomplishing the STEM goals was appointing forward-thinking team member Structural Engineer Nathan Fox as the District’s High School Intern Program Coordinator.
