    Local teachers develop STEM curriculum through Corps externships

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2016) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is committed to supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs in partnership with local educators. Three Stratford STEM Magnet High School teachers recently participated in an externship at the Nashville District Headquarters and at Old Hickory Dam that will help them develop project-based curriculum and facilitate applied learning.

    Flood prone community bound for greatness

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District and partnering agencies completed the Bound Brook portion of the Green Brook Flood Risk Management Project. This significant development will help protect residents from experiencing the devastation of another major storm, and will drastically reduce their flood insurance and improve Bound Brook’s economy.

Ed Chamberlayne, commander, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, signed a symbolic Watershed Assessment Cost-Sharing Agreement with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to begin work on the Chesapeake Bay Comprehensive Water Resources and Restoration Plan (Comp plan) during a Chesapeake Bay Program Principals’ Staff Committee meeting at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Headquarters in Washington, May 26, 2016. The final cost-sharing agreement document was officially signed on July 22, 2016. Chamberlayne is a member of the Principals' Staff Committee, which acts as the policy advisors to the Chesapeake Bay Executive Council. EPA is the federal lead for the committee.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, has signed a Watershed Assessment Cost-Sharing Agreement with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to begin work on the Chesapeake Bay Comprehensive Water Resources and Restoration Plan.
  • Passersby Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni Building One on July 16 may have had to look twice when they saw the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer's bright red castle flag flying over the Marine headquarters. Marine Col. Robert Boucher, commanding officer, MCAS Iwakuni, raised the USACE flag over the headquarters building with Lee Seeba, former resident engineer, Iwakuni Resident Office, under the joyful eyes of several Iwakuni Resident Office employees. Boucher flew the engineer castle in Iwakuni as a "thank you" to the Corps' Iwakuni Resident Office for a job well done, after completing a particularly intricate project by deadline. Bert Pechhold, current resident engineer, Iwakuni Resident Office, said the transformation that is occurring at MCAS Iwakuni could not be possible without the leadership and support from Boucher and his staff. "This achievement symbolizes that spirit of cooperation and partnership between the Army and Marines," Pechhold said. Seeba is currently the area engineer for the Japan District’s Okinawa Area Office.
