    Budget, USACE Work Plan provide $64 million for Virginia efforts

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Tuesday delivered to Congress its Fiscal Year 2016 (FY 2016) work plan for the Army Civil Works program just hours after the president released his proposed FY 17 budget. The proposed budget and work plan include a total of $64 million for Norfolk District civil works projects in Virginia through FY16-17.

  • The new sonic drill rig on site to perform groundwater investigations near Fort Jackson, South Carolina Jan. 26. The drill rig is a piece of high-tech machinery that is the only one of its kind within the federal government. The Savannah District uses the sonic drill in subsurface and geotechnical investigation projects, serving various state and federal customers throughout the nation. The new sonic drill gives Savannah's drilling team increased capability to drill through all types of soils and most rock.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – A powerful tool enables the Savannah District Explorations Unit to provide unique capabilities in challenging terrains across the nation. The new sonic drill rig - a piece of high-tech machinery that is the only one of its kind within the federal government - can be used in subsurface and geotechnical investigation projects, serving various federal customers throughout the nation.

A dozen U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employees were recognized for their actions to keep navigation locks and hydropower plants operating when rural roads were treacherous and made it difficult for personnel to report to work. Employees worked extra shifts, slept at projects, and braved the elements in some cases to keep producing hydroelectricity and commerce moving along the waterways in the Cumberland River and Tennessee River Basins.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2016) – A handful of dedicated workers are being lauded by Corps of Engineers officials for keeping hydropower plants operating and navigation locks open when snow and ice inundated portions of the Cumberland and Tennessee River basins in January.
