    The “California's Flood Future Highlights: Recommendations for Managing the State's Flood Risk” gives audience members valueable advice during a technical seminar at USACE, South Pacific Division Headquarters, San Francisco, Calif., Aug. 22. Craig Conner, flood risk manager for USACE, San Francisco District and Jason Sidley of California Department of Water Resources (DWR) briefed the report, prepared by USACE, DWR and various other state agencies, which identifies and addresses the barriers to improved flood management. As the first comprehensive look at statewide exposure to flood risk, the report also provides information intended to inform decisions about policies and financial investments to improve public safety, foster environmental stewardship, and support economic stability.

    Corps improves Savannah harbor dredge disposal areas

    When the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dredges sediment from the bottom of the Savannah river to maintain the depth of the shipping channel, where does all that material go? It's called a dredge material containment area (DCMA), commonly known as a dredge disposal area. The Corps' Savannah District maintains seven active DMCAs along the South Carolina side of the Savannah river, where dredged material is safely placed and managed.

    Gathright Dam to perform 'pulse release'

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct a pulse release at Gathright Dam, near Covington, Va., on Tuesday, Sept. 3, beginning at approximately 6 a.m.

    District takes Dam Safety exercises to community partners

    The District’s Dam Safety and Readiness sections are following an aggressive schedule of internal drills, but are also traveling to the Rogue and Willamette basins and the Columbia Gorge this summer to hold project familiarization sessions and tabletop exercises with local and county emergency managers and responders.
