    USACE real estate team pivotal in rebranding Air Force Recruiting facility

    FORT WORTH, Texas - The Air Force Recruiting Service hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony in a first-of-its-kind, nationwide recruiting hub office Aug. 1 in Austin, Texas, as part of a national rebranding initiative. During the ceremony, more than 60 applicants were sworn into the delayed entry program outside of the new office, which expands the manning of traditional recruiting offices from commonly two recruiters to nine, regionalizing recruiting efforts.
  • SAVANNAH, Ga. –Under Secretary of the U.S. Army Dr. Joseph W. Westphal visits the Port of Savannah Sept. 4, 2013 to meet with officials from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Georgia Ports Authority, Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield, and the mayors of Savannah and Hinesville. He took a helicopter tour of the port and surrounding wetlands and held a press conference with local news media. A major purpose of his visit was to highlight the economic value of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP)—a plan to deepen the federal shipping channel from 42 feet to 47 feet to accommodate larger ships and increase shipping efficiencies.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. -- "That's what it's all about-right behind me," said the U.S. Army's second highest-ranking civilian leader, Under Secretary Joseph W. Westphal, as he motioned to the mammoth cranes, cargo containers, and semi-trucks bustling around him.

    Partnerships result in successful National Public Lands Day event at J. Percy Priest Lake

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept 7, 2013) – In observance of National Public Lands Day, the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands, the J. Percy Priest Lake team partnered with the Nashville Clean Water Project and a diverse group of willing volunteers to tidy up several areas around the lake.
  • Several California highway patrolmen, trainers, and volunteers ascended on the spillway of the Sepulveda Dam to train on the use of the CHP's newest patrol car, the Ford Police Interceptor-Utility Model, during an exercise Aug. 16.

    CHP uses district asset to train with new patrol car

    More than 20 patrolmen, trainers, and volunteers participated in the training, which saw them test the brand new Ford Police Interceptor Utility model, which is being phased in to replace the force’s aging fleet of iconic white-and-black Crown Victorias.
  • The commander of the South Pacific, Col. David Turner, visited numerous projects and met with district personnel during a trip to Southern California.

    South Pacific Division commander visits district projects, people

    Col. David Turner, the commander of the South Pacific Division, went on a whirlwind tour of several Los Angeles District projects during a visit to the area Aug. 19-23. Turner, who took command of the division in June, was joined by James Dalton, the Corps of Engineers’ chief of engineering and construction, and Brad Schwichtenberg, deputy chief of the division’s regional integration team.
