  • Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area (CIDMMA), also known as Craney Island, is the “Jewel in the Port of Hampton Roads.” Since its construction in 1957, Craney Island’s centralized location provides a low-cost placement option for material dredged from Hampton Roads navigation channels, as well as from private dredging projects.

    Craney Island mosquito spraying set for Sept. 19

    The Norfolk District and the city of Portsmouth, Va., will conduct joint aerial mosquito spraying Thursday at federal properties on Craney Island, adjacent city properties and the Churchland area in Portsmouth.

  • Little Rock District takes huge step in project planning

    The City of Springfield, Missouri, experiences damages from flash floods along Jordan Creek. The area along Jordan Creek is heavily urbanized and includes extensive infrastructure associated with both commercial and industrial areas. A wide variety of management measures to address the flood risk were developed, evaluated and screened.

  • Three Rivers Study, Southeast Arkansas

    A “new start” and funding of $100,000 is needed to complete a 905(b) reconnaissance study of the water resource problems in south-east Arkansas where the Arkansas, Mississippi, and White Rivers converge. The study will determine potential solutions, scope, further federal participation, and identify nonfederal sponsors to provide a comprehensive watershed analysis of basin conditions and alternatives. The study is authorized by Section 216 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1970.

    PowerCorps caps perfect season with eighth championship

    The Federal Fun League wrapped up their 41st softball season Wednesday, July 31 with their annual championship tournament at Willowbranch Park. The 2013 league included teams from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); Jax Federal Credit Union, Naval Facilities Engineering (NAVFAC); U.S. Attorney’s Office/U.S. Probation Office, two teams from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS); and three teams from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District – Better-By-Design, Going Coastal and PowerCorps.
