  • The 50-foot electromagnetic particle ring, Muon g-2 (pronounced g minus two) is lowered in Kentucky Lock, Grand Rivers, Ky., July 16, 2013 on its circuitous journey from Long Island, N.Y. to Chicago. It is a very powerful electromagnetic ring capable of carrying 5,200 amps of current and it creates a very strong magnetic field that allows storing a special particle called a muon.     GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (July 16, 2013) – A 50-foot electromagnetic particle ring passed a milestone July 16, 2013 on its circuitous journey from Long Island, N.Y., to Chicago as it exited the Kentucky Lock operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District.

    Corps Helps the Return of Stolen Navajo Nation Artifacts

    On July 9, the Corps of Engineers repatriated a large cache of sacred artifacts to the Navajo Nation. This is the first time in the history of the Omaha District, with some assistance from the Albuquerque District, that the return of artifacts to a tribal nation has occurred under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA).

    Corps and Bass Pro Shops partner to promote water safety

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District teamed with Bass Pro Shops in Southern California to handout materials emphasizing water and boating safety during Bass Pro Shops “Family Summer Camp” campaign from June 8 to July 14. The effort stemmed from the Corps and Bass Pro Shops signing a partnership agreement in late 2012 to develop projects nationally to improve fish habitat and water and boater safety education.
