The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Transatlantic Division serves as USACE’s tip of the spear in one of the most dynamic construction environments in the world, STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS, BUILDING CAPACITY, and ENHANCING SECURITY for our nation, allies, and partners. 

We SAFELY deliver agile, responsive, and innovative, design, construction, engineering and contingency solutions in support of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command and other global partners to advance national security interests.

LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER:

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Craig Smith, Nashville District Tennessee River Operations Center, takes a momentary break from welding plates securing new tow haulage rail on Kentucky Lock wall Nov. 5, 2013. Nashville District employees completed the Tow Haulage Unit Replacement Project on time at Kentucky Lock in Grand Rivers, Ky., Dec. 5, 2013, and the lock has resumed 24-hour operations. The new unit should move unpowered tows more efficiently and also eliminate a winter icing problem caused by the design of the 69-year-old tow haulage unit installed in 1944, according to Jeff Ross, Nashville District navigation chief.

    Kentucky Lock gets new tow haulage unit

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Dec. 10, 2013) — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District employees completed the Tow Haulage Unit Replacement Project at Kentucky Lock in Grand Rivers, Ky., Dec. 5, 2013. They finished the work on time and the navigation lock has resumed 24-hour operations.

    The Republic of Korea -U.S. Alliance Friendship Association presented Col. Bryan S. Green, commander and district engineer, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Far East District, with a Korean name at a ceremony at the Korea Ministry of National Defense club Dec. 3. Green was conferred the name Pak Geon-taek, a name with very symbolic meaning and significance, according to Suh Jin-sup, association chairman.
