    Near-drowning survivors, USACE thank rescuer who pulled victims from sinking boat

    “On our mind was, ‘am I gonna drown?’” said Terry. “That’s the question Anthony kept asking, and I said 'no, sombody’ll be here,' and then I’d turn around and I’d holler, 'help, help!' Gosh I didn’t think I’d ever see help.”
  • A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Forward Engineering Support Team-Advance traveled to Latvia, Estonia and Croatia May 8-19, 2012 to conduct route recognizance and assessments of a hydroelectric plant, building and bridge in support of USAREUR's Saber Strike and Immediate Response exercises.     USACE forward engineering team supports USAREUR-led exercises

    A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Forward Engineering Support Team-Advance traveled to Latvia, Estonia and Croatia May 8-19, 2012 to provide technical engineering expertise including route reconnaissance and structural assessments in support of U.S. Army Europe-led Saber Strike and Immediate Response exercises.
  • PORTSMOUTH, Va. -- More than 23 employees and family members from the Norfolk District participated in Clean the Bay Day June 2, 2012. Clean the Bay Day is a statewide initiative organized by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, in conjunction with municipalities, businesses and government agencies working together to restore the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers and streams. Every year since 1989, thousands of citizens throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia have dedicated their time to clear litter from waterways. Norfolk District employees volunteered three hours of their time today to remove debris from the shorelines of the Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area, which is operated and maintained by the district. CIDMMA is a 2,500-acre confined dredged material disposal site on the north side of Portsmouth, Va. It serves as an economical and environmentally sustainable repository for material dredged within the federal waterways of the Hampton Roads harbor.

  • Vicksburg Researcher Advances Career

    Dr. Ty Wamsley was recently appointed chief of the Flood and Storm Protection Division, Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL), for the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, Miss. Dr. Jeffery Holland, ERDC director, made the announcement May 22.
