    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Civil Engineer Franchelle Craft served as a subject matter expert to students seeking to learn about African Americans in marine and coastal professions as part of Oppe Elementary Magnet Campus of Coastal Studies’ upcoming Black History Month celebration. Students interviewed Craft to learn about the role science and math plays in her everyday career at the Corps for a poster project that will highlight the Galveston District employee. USACE Galveston District’s Corps in the Classroom Program supports USACE' Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Program, pairing Army personnel and civil engineers with students to provide opportunities for students to learn about the engineering and science career fields, educate the community about the Corps’ mission and highlight the district’s contributions to the community, state and nation.

    Craft recognized as BEYA STEM Science Spectrum Trailblazer

    GALVESTON, Texas -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District Civil Engineer Franchelle Craft was selected as a Science Spectrum Trailblazer Award recipient by the 28th Black Engineer of the Year Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Global Competitiveness Conference, an honor bestowed upon minority men and women who actively create new paths for others in science, research, technology and development.

    Army Corps, U.S. Navy retrieve piece of Civil War ironclad from Savannah River

    SAVANNAH, Ga.-- Archeologists working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, aided by divers and salvage operations teams from the U.S. Navy, retrieved a 64-square-foot section of a Civil War ironclad warship from the bottom of the Savannah River here, the evening of Nov. 12.

    Dam operators play essential role in public safety

    Michael Moran is a dam operator at Santa Fe Dam and Reservoir, which is a flood risk management project constructed and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District. Built in 1949, the project is located on the San Gabriel River about four miles downstream from the mouth of the San Gabriel Canyon, near Irwindale, Calif. It is one of 13 dams in the District.
