    In the photo, the old siphon was demolished and the construction crew is using a crane to install the replacement siphon. Once in place, the crew will weld the new pipe together and cover it up. Once completed, the project will help provide flood risk reduction for years to come.

    Puerto Nuevo flood reduction project under construction

    A $40-million mega project is underway at Bechara in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which addresses flood risk reduction. The project involves replacing a 7-foot diameter sewer siphon in the Port of San Juan, which provides drainage for major portions of the city.

St. Paul District staff from the channels and harbors section took to the ice of Lake Pepin on Feb. 18 for the first of weekly ice thickness measurements.     With an air temperature of -5 degrees and winds at 15 miles per hour or more, St. Paul District staff from the channels and harbors section took to the ice of Lake Pepin on Feb. 18 for the first of weekly ice thickness measurements.
  • The Los Angeles District inducted Ruth Villalobos, the former chief of Planning Division who retired in 2008, into the District's Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees at a ceremony Feb. 19 in the District's Los Angeles headquarters. Villalobos is one of three former employees inducted in 2015.

More than 40 retirees attended the “State of the District” presentation and luncheon at the District headquarters.
