    Furnishings Program expands to include Air Force project

    The Huntsville Center Furnishings Program team completed QA inspections on three projects totaling $1.25 million at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
  • Silver Jackets partners pose together Nov. 17, 2015 during a ceremony at the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency to announce the distribution of the Tennessee Post Disaster Guide to emergency management personnel across the state. Silver Jackets is an innovative program where multiple state, federal, and sometimes tribal and local agencies learn from each other and apply knowledge to reduce risk to natural hazards. Program goals include improved communication, facilitation of actions to reduce vulnerability and consequences of flooding, creation or supplement of mechanisms to implement or recommend solutions, leverage of available resources, and development of comprehensive regional flood risk management strategies.

    Tennessee prepared to distribute its ‘Post Disaster Guide’

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 17, 2015) — The state of Tennessee is set to distribute its “Post Disaster Guide” with emergency managers across the state, officials announced today during the quarterly Silver Jackets meeting at the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency Emergency Operations Center.

    Reducing the U.S. military's environmental footprint in Afghanistan

    Huntsville Center is managing the $21.5 million contract for the environmental footprint reduction at more than 60 U.S. military camps and bases being closed throughout Afghanistan as a result of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country.

  • D.C. Silver Jackets hosts tabletop exercise for flood emergencies in the District

    The District of Columbia’s interagency flood-fighting team completed a tabletop exercise to test the effectiveness of plans laid out in the District’s revised Flood Emergency Manual Nov. 3, 2015. This manual details how federal, District, and public agencies will respond to flood emergencies in the District and the nearby vicinity, including emergency closures and the operation of the 17th Street closure structure that is part of the Potomac Park Levee.

    Student gets geotech guidance

    Kelly Wun, a high school senior, had a chance to learn directly from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Far East District employees at the district compound in Seoul on Nov. 5. Scott Bittner, a science teacher at Seoul American High School, selected Wun for this job-shadowing opportunity from eight student-candidates, in recognition of her leadership and academic interests.
