    USACE Buffalo District Celebrates Engineer’s Week

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District kicks off the start of Engineer’s week by hosting an Engineer Shadow Day for students from Buffalo, NY area school districts.
  • Lt. Col. Stephen F. Murphy is the 64th commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District. He manages the water resources development and navigable waterways operations for the Cumberland and Tennessee River basins covering 59,000 square miles, with 42 field offices touching seven states and a work force of over 700 employees.

    Commentary: Corps working to ensure storage rights for Lake Cumberland water users

    A recent article in the Commonwealth Journal alleged that I said (in the author’s words) that water users around Lake Cumberland would soon have to dig a well or take a bucket to the creek to get water as the result of an ongoing Army Corps of Engineers water storage reallocation study. The Commonwealth Journal article titled “Corps plans to begin charging for lake water” was in response to a letter I recently sent to municipal and industrial water supply users drawing from Lake Cumberland. I genuinely appreciate the concern that the article represents but the misrepresentation of my tone and of the project’s intended benefit troubles me, so I wanted to respond explaining why we’re doing what we’re doing and the benefit to us all.

  • Budget, USACE Work Plan provide $64 million for Virginia efforts

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Tuesday delivered to Congress its Fiscal Year 2016 (FY 2016) work plan for the Army Civil Works program just hours after the president released his proposed FY 17 budget. The proposed budget and work plan include a total of $64 million for Norfolk District civil works projects in Virginia through FY16-17.

Beach was praised for taking action in June 2015, when he observed a camper failed to place her vehicle in park while unlatching from her motor home in Tompkins Campground, sending the unattended vehicle on a backwards, downhill descend towards Cowanesque Lake and multiple campsites, restroom facilities, and a playground. Beach quickly drove up the hill and struck the small vehicle with his Army Corps service vehicle, safely bringing it to a stop.
