    Hansen named Sacramento District Regulator of the Year

    Kris Hansen, from our Reno, Nevada, regulatory office, has been awarded the Sacramento District Regulatory Excellence Award for her work in 2015. Hansen was instrumental in completing a complicated permit decision for a new large highway, the Reno-Sparks Southeast Connector.
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District maintenance crew dedicated to the Soo Locks, located at Sault Ste. Marie in the upper peninsula of Michigan, have arrived at the Buffalo District to repair a portion of the 100-year old Black Rock Lock, Buffalo, NY.

    Soo Locks Maintenance Crew Arrives to Work on Black Rock Lock

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District maintenance crew dedicated to the Soo Locks, located at Sault Ste. Marie in the upper peninsula of Michigan, have arrived at the Buffalo District to repair a portion of the 100-year old Black Rock Lock, Buffalo, NY.

    Corps team solves mystery of collapsed bridge in Haiti

    Rumors of prominent Haitian families at odds with intent to sabotage, to thieves who steal nuts and bolts to sell for money, and other stories of intrigue gripped the island as locals tried to piece together what caused a notable bridge to collapse in March.
  • The Huntington District’s Public Affairs Office conducted media relations training for 30 members of the Huntington workforce at Beech Fork Lake. The facilitator was Dr. Joseph Trahan III of Trahan and Associates. This training improves the district's team members understanding of communication techniques and increases their confidence when telling the district’s story through the media. Each day long course focused on developing effective messages, techniques in answering tough questions, techniques to prepare for media engagements, effectively dealing with reporters and how to conduct on camera interviews. The training included two on camera experiences. The techniques taught in dealing with the media are transferrable to speaking to stakeholders and the general public. A second iteration of media training is scheduled for 28-29 June 2016.
