    District employee recognized for life's work

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District employee Steve Dwyer, chief, Navigation and Coastal Projects Branch, was honored in July by the Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. They recognized Dwyer with the 2016 ASCE MLAB Lifetime Achievement in Civil Engineering award.

    West Virginia boy gets Space Camp opportunity

    When retired Lt. Col. Russ Dunford’s family asked him what he hoped to find under the Christmas tree last year, Dunford knew that his grandmother’s old adage had finally come true – “At some point in your life you make the mental transition that it’s better to give than receive.” Dunford wanted to give the gift of opportunity to a young man or woman growing up in southern West Virginia, where Dunford was born and raised. He wanted to send them to Space Camp.

    Undersecretary of the Army visits Savannah District

    SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Undersecretary of the Army Patrick Murphy met with Savannah District leaders to tour significant projects Aug. 11, 2016. Murphy took an aerial tour of the Savannah Harbor as part of his visit to Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia. The Savannah District is responsible for maintaining the Savannah harbor and is in the process of deepening it an additional 5 feet to better accommodate larger, post-Panamax container ships, as part of the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP).
