LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

The SHIELD 5 program built missile defense infrastructure project was managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on behalf of Qatar. In construction organizations, project managers and design engineers get the glory but cost engineers play a critical role behind the scenes. This is especially true in an organization like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Transatlantic Middle East District (TAM).

    Walla Walla District cost engineers provide expertise and support to FEMA and other federal agencies

    Natural disasters like floods and hurricanes can severely damage homes, businesses and infrastructure. Those who suffer damages in natural disasters can apply to FEMA for financial assistance. When this happens, a cost estimate is needed to determine how much money it would take to either repair or replace the structure in question.

    Chief of engineers visits Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 3, 2021) – The 55th chief of engineers visited the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project on the Tennessee River today to meet with project managers and engineers and gain a better understanding of ongoing construction of a new lock chamber.

  • Tim Pangburn adds his portrait to the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) Gallery of Distinguished Employees in Hanover, N.H., Dec. 3, 2002. Panburn started working for CRREL in 1978 as a civil engineering technician, until his retirement in 2017 as a director for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Remote Sensing/Geographic Information Systems Center of Expertise. The CRREL Gallery of Distinguished Employees was established in 1986 as part of the laboratory’s Silver Jubilee Year. The first distinguished employee recognized in the gallery is W. Keith Boyd, the first CRREL technical director. Boyd facilitated the 1961 establishment of CRREL in Hanover, and his leadership enhanced CRREL’s stature and reputation as a leader in cold regions research throughout the world.     CRREL inducts Pangburn into Gallery of Distinguished Employees

    The Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) honored its researchers, scientists and engineers during an awards ceremony in Hanover, New Hampshire, in December 2020. The final award, the Distinguished Employee Award, recognized the lifelong contributions made by Tim Pangburn, who started working for CRREL in 1978 as a civil engineering technician. He retired in 2017 as a director for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Remote Sensing (RS)/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Center of Expertise.
