LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Palmer-Moloney Sees deployment as a Benefit to ERDC

    In describing her deployment to Afghanistan, ERDC-Topographic Engineering Center (TEC) Senior Research Geographer Dr. Laura Jean Palmer-Moloney said, “It was the only way that I could work in the Helmand River watershed to extend the research being performed with the Civilian-Military Operations/Human-Environment Interaction (CMO-HEI).”

    CRREL Blows Snow for Deere

    The well-known and long-time farm tractor manufacturer John Deere is looking at making some changes to one of its product lines and is performing research at ERDC-CRREL.
  • Maj. Gen. John Peabody, Mississippi Valley Division commander, and Todd Sando, North Dakota State Water Commission engineer, dedicate the Tolna Coulee Advance Measures Project with a ribbon cutting ceremony July 19. The 800-foot wide structure is designed to regulate the amount of water that would flow through the coulee.

    Commanders tour, dedicate North Dakota project

    North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple and Mississippi Valley Division Commander Maj. Gen. John Peabody dedicated the district’s Tolna Coulee project with a ribbon cutting ceremony July 19. The ceremony was part of a three-day North Dakota tour undertaken by Peabody July 17-19, which also included attending a Devils Lake Executive Committee meeting in Bismarck, N.D., and making stops in Devils Lake, N.D., Minot, N.D., and Valley City, N.D.

    Cochiti Lake Hosts Second Annual Triathlon

    The 2012 Cochiti Triathlon was held at Cochiti Lake July 29. It was organized by Chasing 3 Race Productions and was an official triathlon, sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the national governing body for many types of sports and racing events and a federation member of the U.S. Olympic Committee. All participants in this triathlon were members of the USA Triathlon or needed a one-day pass in order to compete.
  • In January, representatives from the District’s El Paso Resident Office, Border Patrol and Mirador Enterprises (and subs) met for an important design charrette on a Border Patrol project.

    Charrettes Help Ensure Projects Come to Fruition

    The Corps most often uses charrettes at the beginning of the design process to meet with the customer and explore design options for a particular project.
