    District Engineer Steve Dwyer, chief, Navigation and Coastal Projects Branch, stands in the Harvard Architecture School on Dec. 13. The school is built like half of a pyramid and has six floors tht are open to each other, so a person can stand on the top level and look down. He said it is one giant studio.

    Corps' engineer invited to critique Harvard students’ design projects

    Steve Dwyer, chief, Navigation and Coastal Projects Branch, was asked to participate as an engineering advisor for a graduate-level Landscape Architecture Studio at Harvard University. Per Harvard's invitation, he visited the school Dec. 13 to sit on a panel organized to review and judge the students' design projects, which all related to the Los Angeles River. Dwyer, who was the District's chief of operations for 25 years had the responsibility of maintenance for the Los Angeles River and wrote the Los Angeles County Drainage Area Project's operation and maintenance manual.

    Corps awards $900,000 dredging contract to Miss. company

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $991,500 contract to a Cleveland, Miss.- based company to dredge the Tangier Island, Va. federal navigation channel.

    Hudson installed as SAME Nashville Post president

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2013)–The Nashville Post of the Society of American Military Engineers installed its new president today during an installation ceremony in the Tennessee Engineering Center at the Adventure Science Center.
  • CAP 205 projects focus mostly on local projects which could include structural solutions such as channel enlargement, realignment, or paving; obstruction removal; levee and wall construction; bank stabilization; and/or non-structural solutions such as a flood warning system. This floodwall is designed to be placed across a road during a high water event and is an example of a CAP 205 structural project.
