LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Corps hosts public meeting for shoreline mitigation study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosted a public meeting to discuss the ongoing San Diego County Shoreline (Oceanside) Mitigation Study Sept. 16 at the Oceanside Civic Center Library. The study aims to mitigate shoreline erosion and other impacts, resulting from the construction of U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Harbor, which has interrupted sediment transport along the coast and contributed to erosion of southward beaches.

    ITL ventures into neuromorphic computing

    In recent years, edge computing has revolutionized the technology landscape for users situated in remote areas or away from primary devices. By bringing computation and data storage closer to the location where it is needed, response times, reliability and performance are greatly improved, latency and bandwidth costs are reduced and privacy and security are enhanced. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL) Edge Computing Lab has long been on the cutting-edge of this field and is now exploring something new: neuromorphic computing.
  • The road rehabilitation project is one of the first partnership opportunities for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District to provide services to the Allegheny National Forest. The project includes repaving roughly 14 miles of scenic roadway near the Kinzua Dam and the Allegheny Reservoir. Funding for the project came from the Great American Outdoors Act of 2020. The act established a new funding stream to address infrastructure and facility maintenance for federal land-management agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working to rehabilitate and repave roadway along the Longhouse National Scenic Drive in the Allegheny National Forest in Kane, Pennsylvania.
  • Transporting commodities on the waterways is four times less expensive than by truck and 33 percent cheaper than by rail. Between 15 million and 20 million tons of cargo travel on the upper Ohio River each year, including mainly coal, but also coke, petroleum products, raw and finished steel, and aggregates.
