We SAFELY deliver agile, responsive, and innovative, design, construction, engineering and contingency solutions in support of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command and other global partners to advance national security interests.

LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    An interesting feature of Montana’s T.rex is that it was found with a third digit, demonstrating that T.rex had a vestigial third finger. For decades Tyrannosaurus rex was thought to have had only two fingers at the end of its tiny arms.

    What’s the Army Doing with Dinosaurs? Redux

    On April 11, Montana State University’s, Museum of the Rockies publicly opened a new permanent exhibit in its Siebel Dinosaur Complex called “The Tyrant Kings.” At the center of the exhibit is a nearly 12-foot-tall, 40-foot-long fossilized Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton. The fossil, known by many names: “Peck's Rex” because it was found in 1997 near Fort Peck Dam and Reservoir in Montana and scientifically, “MOR 980” the specimen number assigned to the fossil when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers entrusted it to the Museum of the Rockies in 1998. With the opening of the exhibit, it will become known as “Montana’s T.rex.”
  • Brig. Gen. Mark Toy, commanding general of the USACE South Pacific Division and Don Knabe, Los Angeles County supervisor, presented a scroll to Ron Weiss, a former USACE employee who worked on the marina since its beginning in the 1950s at a ceremony April 10. USACE workers were recognized at Marina del Rey's 50th Birthday Bash for the design and work efforts in taking and keeping Marina del Rey from the duck hunting marsh it was into the marina it is today.

    Retired colonels maintain old connections, pursue new dreams

    On a beautiful Monday morning, when most people were just arriving at the office, three retired colonels came together ready to spend the day outside. Retired Col. Ronald Light, former commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Middle East District, and owner of Lighthouse Woodworking, has been building furniture since 1995. The two-story, three-car garage at his family’s home in Boyce, Va., is his woodworking workshop and furniture showroom.

    A public meeting held here Thursday evening to discuss the future of the Bicentennial mural on the Prado Dam spillway attracted more than 200 attendees, many of whom made impassioned statements about their desire to see the original mural restored.
