    U.S. Army Corps Advances Port’s Wider, Deeper, Safer Effort; 55-Foot Target Depth Approved

    The effort to make The Port of Virginia the deepest and safest port on the U.S East Coast continues to advance as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today issued its critical, final authorization to move ahead with the Wider, Deeper, Safer project.

  • 7th Annual Water Safety Fireworks Display at Fishtrap Lake

    The Corps water safety booth was manned by Brett Salyers, Travis Coleman, Magan Boyd, Glenda Robinson and Heather Coleman. It delivered a safe boating / water safety message that included placing life vests on adults and kids alike, illustrating the purpose, proper size / fit, and how to wear the life vest. Water safety information was given to most in attendance. Fireworks were displayed off Fishtrap Dam at 9:45pm for approximately 30 minutes.

    El Nino has returned with a vengeance. Over the last week, back-to-back storm systems have hit southern California. The National Weather Service is predicting a third storm in the area, describing it as the “biggest storm of the season.” The already saturated conditions, along with the additional forecasted rainfall, indicate Los Angeles River channels will be flowing at full capacity and may overtop.
