    ST. PAUL DISTRICT - Corps of Engineers awards island unloading dredging contract

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded an $8.7 million contract to J.F. Brennan Company, Inc., of La Crosse, Wisconsin, to unload dredged material in Wabasha, Minnesota, Sept. 23.
  • The new Fort Irwin Weed Army Community Hospital at Fort Irwin, California , 7.6 acre photovoltaic (PV) array and a solar thermal array, will generate 2.4 megawatts of power and the solar thermal array will provide a majority of the hot water the hospital requires. The new hospital project consists of a 216,000 square foot hospital facility which will provide Soldier and family patient care, emergency medicine, and a wide variety of clinical support. The facility stands to become the first LEED Platinum, net-zero, carbon-neutral hospital that will generate all of its energy needs from solar power and renewable energy systems

    USACE senior leaders visit Fort Irwin Hospital project

    Maj. Gen. Robert D. Carlson, the commanding general of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Transatlantic Division, was promoted in a ceremony at the Pentagon May 15. Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, the USACE commanding general and 53rd chief of engineers, promoted Carlson. This was the second time he promoted Carlson; the first time was to brigadier general. Bostick noted that Carlson is a great leader, coach and mentor.

    Transatlantic Division holds Change of Responsibility Ceremony

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Transatlantic Division held its Change of Responsibility Ceremony at the Division’s headquarters in Winchester, Va. During the ceremony, the Division bid farewell to outgoing Command Sgt. Maj. Roy Ward and welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald Johnson as the new command sergeant major of the Transatlantic Division.

    Construction projects some of the best, general says

    KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – In the remote district of Shorabak, situated in Helmand Province, is a newly-built Afghan National Army, or ANA, installation which according to Maj. Gen. Michael Eyre, is some of the best construction he’s seen in Afghanistan.

    This is the sixth year for the LDP at the district. Tier II is aimed at helping participants get a better understanding and take control of their personal strengths in leading. Typically, Tier II participants have already completed Tier I which is focused on being a valuable team member.

    Assuring quality construction for the benefit of Afghans’ security

    Through NATO’s primary objective in Afghanistan is to enable the Afghan authorities to provide effective security across the country so it can never again be a refuge for terrorists. In addition to conducting security operations and mentoring the Afghan National Security Forces, building adequate facilities where ANSF may live, work and train is vital to promoting a strong defense against threats.
  • Foam tests, such as this one at a newly constructed aircraft hanger on Kandahar Airfield are critical to ensuring that fire suppression systems operate as designed. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers oversaw dozens of these tests across south and west Afghanistan in 2011 and 2012.

    USACE's military construction program in southern Afghanistan winds down

    The United States and its coalition partners sent military forces to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in October 2001. A six-person U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Forward Engineer Support Team deployed with the U.S. Army’s XVIII Airborne Corps to provide engineering, construction, planning, contracting and real estate services.

    District Recognizes Contractor Safety

    The Middle East District recently recognized a contractor in Kosovo for achieving a significant safety accomplishment. KBR Inc. received the district’s Superior Safety Performance Award for its work on the U.S. Army Europe Support Contract during a recent safety committee meeting at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.
