    USACE creates project Task Force VIPR for Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico

    SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to take new approaches to engineering solutions for our nations toughest challenges and introduced the new task force that aims to speed up construction of the ongoing civilian works on the Island. Task Force U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico (Task Force VIPR) was created to organize and prioritize the demand of construction projects throughout the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

    Headwaters Highlights: Volunteer edition at Woodcock Creek Lake

    In 2004, due to the USACE volunteer program, Mark Ritke installed a dozen bluebird boxes at Woodcock Creek Lake, which fledge more than 50 bluebirds yearly. Because Mark monitors his bluebird boxes regularly throughout the nesting season and uses predator guards, he has a nearly 100 percent fledgling success rate.
  • Valjean Stell-Burns, chief of the Internal Review Office, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District receives a Certificate of Retirement from Savannah District Deputy Commander Lt. Col. Alex Duffy, May 16, during her retirement ceremony. Stell-Burns officially retires June 3 after 42 years of federal service.

    When Valjean Stell-Burns started working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1981, she was in her junior year of college at Savannah State University pursuing a degree in accounting.
