LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commanding general and 55th chief of engineers, center, signed a chief’s report Oct. 14 recommending the Port of Long Beach Deep Draft Navigation Plan to Congress at the Corps’ headquarters in Washington, D.C. The plan could be included in the next Water Resources Development Act. A separate bill to appropriate funding to the plan would also have to be passed by Congress for the plan to move forward to construction.

    Corps’ chief signs report to move Port of Long Beach deep-draft navigation project forward

    Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District and the Port of Long Beach are one step closer to improving navigation efficiencies and safety for existing and prospective commerce within the port with the signing of a chief’s report for the project. The Port of Long Beach Deep-Draft Navigation Feasibility Report – which aims to improve and modify existing channels in the port by deepening them to accommodate larger cargo ships – was signed Oct. 14 by Lt. Gen. Scott Spellmon, the Corps’ commanding general and 55th U.S. Army chief of engineers, at the Corps’ headquarters in Washington, D.C.

A recent U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center Huntsville Utility Energy Service Contract opportunity is providing infrastructure improvements and enhanced energy assurance and resilience at the Navy installation.

    Huntsville Center’s Utility Energy Services Contracting program was the solution to the Navy’s requirement as the Center’s UESC program encompasses a broad range of energy conservation measures providing its customers flexibility to specifically tailor a project to a customer’s energy needs.

  • Charleston District completed expansion of the 20-acre Fort Jackson National Cemetery this year. The newly-expanded cemetery includes more than 5,000 pre-placed crypts, 2,000 cremation sites, hundreds of traditional burial sites and a committal shelter.
