LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Valuable face-to-face meetings

    Building Capacity in a contingency environment is not always optimal, but the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in Afghanistan maintains a steady pace with its projects and programs. In a recent visit to Kandahar, the Deputy Commanding Officer of the USACE Afghanistan District joined Construction Division along with Project Engineer, Brian Cagle on a trip to the Kandahar Air Wing (KAW) Well Site and Sewage Plant to perform Quality Assurance and Quality Check on the progress. The group visited the portions of the project located inside the Kandahar Air Wing area. In particular, they looked at and discussed the progress of the new water well which is currently in the water quality and quantity testing phase. They were able to meet in person with the Contractor project manager and quality control manager as well as the USACE Local National Quality Assurance Representative (LNQA). “We have regular teleconferences with these personnel involved with these projects,” said Cagle, “but it is extremely valuable to have face-to-face meetings to facilitate the spirit of cooperation with our Afghan partners.”

    ​We are excited about our partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and WV DNR on this mussel study! USFWS, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the WVDNR partnered together to test the feasibility of extensively culturing freshwater mussels in three U.S. Army Corps of Engineer reservoirs in WV. USFWS and the WVDNR placed three cages with ~30 Largemouth bass infested with Pocketbook glochidia (larval mussels) in Sutton reservoir on 6/7/2018.
