The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Transatlantic Division serves as USACE’s tip of the spear in one of the most dynamic construction environments in the world, STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS, BUILDING CAPACITY, and ENHANCING SECURITY for our nation, allies, and partners. 

We SAFELY deliver agile, responsive, and innovative, design, construction, engineering and contingency solutions in support of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command and other global partners to advance national security interests.

LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Army Corps Builds Combination of Features to Withstand Force of Atlantic

    Work continues on the District’s Fire Island to Moriches Inlet (FIMI) coastal-storm risk reduction project on Fire Island in Suffolk County repairing a 19-mile stretch of coastline from erosion and damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The $281 million project includes placing seven million cubic yards of sand, demolishing nearly 50 structures, installing more than 40 vehicle and pedestrian crossovers for beach access, building several miles of dunes with plantings, and relocating a water line. FIMI is 100 percent funded through the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013 (PL 113-2) repairing damage from Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
  • This project involves restoring approximately 68 acres of habitat including coastal dunes, oak savanna, oak woodland, and naturalizing streambank. The Portage Park study area is part of the Lake Michigan coastline, located in Porter County in northwestern Indiana. The Portage Park feasibility study was approved in August 2012, and the project partnership agreement was signed in May 2013. A five-year construction contract was awarded in September 2014, with a spring 2015 construction start.

    The Chicago District currently has 32 ecosystem restoration projects recently completed or under construction within its footprint of six counties in Illinois and three in northwest Indiana. These projects have protected or restored over 4100acres of habitat, providing substantial benefits to wildlife and improving the quality of life through compatible recreation such as wildlife watching and hunting for the region’s 9.4 million residents.
  • "Personnel from the U.S. Army Transatlantic Division, Transatlantic Middle East District and U.S. Army Central Command attend the Project Management "Boot Camp" course held in December in Winchester, Virginia. The course is intended to prepare project management professionals to take the PMP certification exam. The PMP certification is the most recognized form of accreditation offered in the project management career field and is known for being very difficult to earn."

    Members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from the Transatlantic Division and Transatlantic Middle East District (TAM) recently took part in an intensive four-day course to prepare them to take the Project Management Professionals certification exam. Bringing the course to the Division and District Headquarters in Winchester, Virginia, enabled them to maximize participation and resulted in a substantial cost savings to the government.
