LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    Librarian shares digital resource with federal retirees

    HERMITAGE, Tenn. That’s why the Nashville District Librarian highlighted valuable features of the USACE Digital Library with a group of federal retirees today at Hermitage United Methodist Church.

  • Coastal engineers expect that large storms will induce sediment transport from the nourished beach and move sand offshore. When this happens, waves begin to break farther from the shoreline, thus weakening their force before they reach the shoreline itself. In this way, beach nourishment projects help protect dunes and property from further erosion, decrease flooding, and limit how far ashore storm surge will go. A wide, flat beach berm with a sufficient volume of sand keeps the erosive power of the waves from reaching and destroying the dunes and structures and can reduce damages significantly from waves, inundation, and erosion. Without beach nourishment, the starting point for damage would be farther onshore; a nourished beach, with sufficient sand volume and healthy dunes, absorbs the storm's energy, even during slow-moving storms, and helps prevent damages to structures and infrastructure.

    Although a lot of engineering goes into planning, designing, and constructing hard structures such as levees, walls, tidal barriers, and pump stations, engineering is crucial to building and replenishing beaches, as well.
  • Letterkenny Army Depot painters prepare to de-mask a freshly painted ground mobility vehicle (GMV) inside a paint booth similar to the booths being upgraded as part of a $43 million project to make improvements to the infrastructure on the depot. The GMV was road tested prior to going through the final paint process. The upgrades will allow paint to adhere to the asset more efficiency and across the entire asset in one paint cycle. Some booths are receiving an infrared drying system (IR). Other booths will be retrofitted with gas fired elevated temperature systems to maintain maximum capacity inside the booth.

    Work to upgrade Letterkenny Army Depot industrial facilities underway

    Work is underway at Letterkenny Army Depot that will modernize depot infrastructure, cut energy use by approximately 28 percent, reduce water usage by nearly 50 percent, and generate at least $4.1 million in annual energy and operational savings.
