LAPSE IN DoW APPROPRIATIONS - Friday, October 3, 2025

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

 

A NEW CHAPTER: - Tuesday, August 5, 2025

On August 5, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officially realigned mission oversight of USACE operations in support of U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command from the Transatlantic Division to the Southwestern Division. This transition ensures continued, focused support to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command across the Middle East, Central and South Asia, and the Levant. Both the Middle East District and the Transatlantic Expeditionary District remain fully operational and continue delivering engineering solutions that support regional stability and operational readiness. This is a new chapter, not a new identity. The mission – and the USACE legacy – continues.

    USACE turns over operations and maintenance responsibility to Afghan Air Force

    While this is the first O&M transition to the Afghan Air Force, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineer District-South transferred O&M responsibility for some of the facilities on the Afghan National Army's Camp Hero near Kandahar in July 2011.

  • Corps of Engineers leads coalition effort to save coho salmon

    In the winter of 2011, biologists funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers counted a record number of wild juvenile coho salmon in the downstream portions of the Russian River system in western Sonoma County. Adult coho also appear to be reproducing in some of their historical tributaries for the first time since large-scale monitoring of the species began in 2005.

  • ERDC's GSL makes JFOB Protection Handbook

    ERDC Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL) has distributed more than 2,000 copies of the newest edition of the Joint Forward Operations Base (JFOB) Protection Handbook (Graphic Training Aid 90-01-011) since October 2011. More than 50,000 copies of previous editions have been printed to support troops in Iraq and Afghanistan prior to the current version.

    LOS ANGELES — Society of American Military Engineers posts from Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire held their 26th annual joint breakfast meeting Jan. 13. The keynote speaker currently serves as the Acting Chief of Engineers and Commanding General for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
